Stephen, the man behind VomBoden is a hero and unparalleled writer, so, I'll let him break this one down:
"Sourced from a parcel of ungrafted vines planted in 1934 this is perhaps one of the greatest Sylvaners on earth. As my esteemed colleague has written: “God wine.” Also one of the earliest pickings of the year, the wine is seamless, dense yet featherweight. This is one of those wines that references the natural world in such a total way that one falls back into grandiose, generic (yet meaningful and sincere!) sentiments, like “shimmering,” and “deep” and “alive.”
In 2018 this is 10% and picked in the first days of harvest. A bit wider with some warm tones. Superb and still very focussed with just a whisper of a Jura-esque oxidation.
Eric Asimov included this wine as one of his most memorable bottles of 2018; check out the article here https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/07/dining/drinks/eric-asimov-favorite-wines.html"
